CBD opens up new possibilities for farmers and patients

Florida officers are having trouble distinguishing between hemp, which is legal, and marijuana, which is illegal. (MGN)

TOLEDO Hemp is legal in Ohio, after Governor DeWine signed the bill into law this week.

The move is expected to benefit both consumers and farmers because now the Ohio Department of Agriculture will write regulations that will allow Ohio Farmers to grow Hemp crops.

On the consumer side, people will now have access to products that contain CBD, an oil derived from Hemp that is said to help everything from uncontrolled seizures to arthritis pain and anxiety.

Both Marijuana and Hemp are forms of Cannabis. Marijuana has THC and CBD, and Hemp has CBD with trace amounts of THC. It’s the THC that makes you high and the CBD that gives you the medical benefits.

So some doctors say this will offer patients the benefits without the risks.

The measure now sits with the Ohio Department of Agriculture to write the license requirements and the hope is to have that available to farmers by Spring of 2020.
